Allora
For date night last week, the beau and I went to Allora for the first time. They are located in the 24 Central Area in Sandton, next to News Cafe and Taboo night club. I am definately going back there for the following reasons:
- delicious food - they are not stingy with their portions which guarantees a doggy bag and lunch for the next day, their pasta dishes are delicious and the range of the food on the menu really does leave you baffled on what to choose
- relaxed ambiance
- awesome service - I am a fussy eater and the waiter was more than willing to explore various different ways in which I wanted my food, he also didn't make his presence felt around us but was always available when we needed him. We were also greeted at the door by the manager and he was more than willing to allow us to change the tables we were sitting at, i was all smiles!
- accomodating - whther you're out with friends, boyfriend, family, they will accommodate you
- please check out their website below for further details.
Phum' Elaynini
The expose that you hear in the lyrics of this song, smh! I think we all know or have friends like the people that Slikour's is talking about which is the essential ingredient in what makes this song awesome! It's definitely a party starter and best to play in your car at full volume whilst bobbing your head :)
Fashion Evolution of the Gossip Girl Ladies
I am so totally in love with Gossip Girl, yes like years later! Anyways I was just checking out the fashion evolution of the stars of Gossip Girl from before the TV show started and post the TV show. All I can say is GG came along and helped these girls become the fashionista's whose clothes we lust after today.
PS: Looks like Taylor Momsen is still going through the evolution!

Geneva
I recently had the opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful (and expensive) cities in the world, Geneva. It was a business trip which actually felt more like a holiday. I travelled with 2 other colleagues and once there we met up with 3 more colleagues and had such a lot of fun!
It was my first time experiencing a European SUMMER because the last time I was there it was in the middle of winter. Europe in summer is just beautiful (and a lot like Cape Town)..the sun only sets at 10pm, leaving ample time to explore the city in daylight. We really did explore almost every nook and cranny of Geneva and it's quite a small city with a rich history. We were lucky enough to also be visiting at the same time that the Geneva Festival was taking place and from the little that we experienced it was quite a spectacle. We visited the old Geneva city and I thought it was just stunning. It looked exactly like the movies, cobblestone roads, corner walkways everywhere, flower-filled balconies, apartments with huge doors and lots of corner restaurants.
The transport system also blew me away, we used the buses to travel around the city and we didn't pay for one single bus trip. The buses are super-efficient, they always arrive on time at the bus stops and are always clean! I shopped till my feet ached, there were sales everywhere!! Hello SUMMER SALES :) I was so happy that all the shops were on sale because the cost of living in Geneva is really expensive and so is everything else.
I am a person who loves chicken and was very disappointed to find that most of the restaurants were not serving chicken dishes because it is apparently not considered a premium dish :( We searched high and low and we eventually found a chicken restaurant and it was really worth it.
I really enjoyed my first European summer and look forward to another one, hopefully i will be on holiday and not working!

Asambe Ke
I can't get this song out of my head!! It's so feel good and always has my feet tapping. I just had to share it, enjoy :)
HAPPY WOMENS DAY!!
To all the wonderful women of South Africa, I wish you a happy women's day. I really hope you have an awesome day and an even better year. We as women tend to forget how phenomenal and strong we are because we are so busy looking after everyone else. I seem to be on a poetry tip of late and I want dedicate Maya Angelou's "Phenomenal Women" to all the beautiful women of South Africa.
Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Nicki Minaj - "Your Love"
One of the latest talents to come out of Young Money, Nicki Minaj has had the music industry in a tailspin the past few months. Up until now she has been featured in other artists hits including Usher's song called "Lil Freak" and it looks like she is now finally focusing on her own album since she released this single. Below is her new music video titled "Your Love", it's a really good song and the video lives up to expectations. I really can't wait for her to drop her album!

INCEPTION
If you have not watched this movie yet, you better get into your car and go and see it NOW!!
I haven't seen a movie this good in a while, it's what some people would call a "mindf***" type of movie. Within the first 45 minutes of the movie, you have no idea what is going on and then as it continues everything starts falling into place. It's basically about dreams and the subconscious, I won't say any more than that, after watching it though, I will admit that I couldn't sleep, I was just too scared to dream.
Leonardo DiCaprio really carries the movie impressively as the lead and since its release it has grossed $209 million dollars in the States and $ 171 million worldwide. It really is a must-see!! Mary Kate Olsen
It's been a while since we have heard from the Olsen twins. Below is a recent cover shoot done by Marie Claire with Mary-Kate. If you click on the title of this post it will link you to the brief interview that she did with Marie Claire.
I Love You Phillip Morris
I flew to Geneva week ago and managed to watch this move on the flight. I am not a big fan of Jim Carrey and his crazy antics but I did enjoy this movie. He starts off as a loving and dedicated family man and then after an accident vows to live a life that he truly wants which means admitting to his wife that he is gay! His character from then on just deteriorates but it's very funny to watch. It's a depiction of how far people will go whilst claiming it's in the name of love, enjoy!
Vivienne Tam hp Netbook
My boyfriend was shopping for a video camera at Incredible connections last Sunday and it is where I spotted the Vivienne Tam HP design netbook. It is a mini HP so it is really small in size, which is great for travelling. The whole laptop is gold in colour which is how it manages to immediately catch your eye when in-store. The outer design has butterflies on it which commands for the owner to be a lover of beautiful things. I fell in love with it but was very disappointed to find out that it only comes in the mini size as I would have wanted a slightly bigger size and it's also just a netbook. For those like myself who do not know the difference, a netbook has less processing power than a full-size notebook laptop and has less storage space. It is more suitable for browsing the Internet and running smaller programs. It was initially targeted at people who travel a lot and required a second computer just to be able to communicate with their families and friends around the world. It retails at R4999 at Incredible Connection, which is really affordable for such a beautiful specimen and will meet all the needs required for when travelling.

Alicia Keys weds
One of my all-time favorite artists has tied the knot. Alicia Keys married Swiss Beatz on the 31st of July in a celeb-studded ceremony. I love Alicia Keys and her music but I cannot say the same for all the drama that has happened in her personal life. I was very surprised to find out that her and Swiss Beatz got married so quickly especially considering that the ink is probably not dry yet on Swiss's divorce papers. I understand that she has fallen pregnant, which probably happened whilst she was knowingly dating a married man...
After reading the letter that Mashonda wrote to her, I don't understand how she can be so insensitive to her feelings by the constant public display of affection from her and Swiss. Nevertheless my words won't change anything, so I wish her the best in her marriage. Mazeltov!

Still I Rise - to Seki xxx
I have been meditating on the words of this poem by Maya Angelou the past few days and it’s so fulfilling to be able to tap into your inner strength and confidence. I want to dedicate it to every woman for his women’s month (August) as a reminder of the strength that we possess but so often forget that we do.
I especially want to dedicate it to my friend Seki, who for me represents everything that this poem is about and admire for her ability to continue rising despite all odds. xxx
Still I Rise
Seki, i love this pic of her, she looks happy :) |
You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.
Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.
Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.
Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
Weakened by my soulful cries.
Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin' in my own back yard.
You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.
Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?
Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.
Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

zoe saldana
I have a girl crush on Zoe, ok maybe not on Zoe but on her style, she dresses so well. Since the success of Avatar, she has been on the forefront in the media industry. She’s on magazine covers, the red carpet, TV shows and she’s dressing for it oh so well. I will do more research on Zoe and share it with you but for now I will show why I think this girl deserves my vote for being a fashionista!
