This year, whilst at the movies, we saw the trailer for “Death at a Funeral” but this was the American version with Hollywood stars as the lead actors because the original version that we watched was the British version. Besides all the big stars that were going to be in the movie, the main reason I wanted to watch it is due to curiosity as to whether the Americans could actually do a better job than the British.
The movie features Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence, Danny Glover, Zoe Saldana, Tracy Morgan, Columbus Short, Luke Wilson just to name drop a few. Despite knowing what was going to happen, I still did laugh out loud because the movie is just so funny and worth the trip to the cinema. The only disappointment for me was the lack of chemistry between Chris Rock and Martin Lawrence’s characters who play competitive brothers who’s father has passed on and Martin’s character comes home from New York, after a long absence, for the funeral. They didn’t make me believe that they were brothers & I think they could have casted people with just more chemistry, other than that it was funny AND I still think the British version was better. So if you are at your nearest DVD store and are looking for a good laugh, please do watch it.
Below are the trailers of the American version and the British version.
